Rubber
Our rubber is 4mm in thickness except for the rubber we use for the no edge shoes which is XS grip 2 but thinner. Unless you specify otherwise, we will attempt to match your rubber to the original.
Vibram XS Grip – Offers a balance between durability, edging, and grip on any surface. Found on Tenaya shoes and older versions of La Sportiva and Scarpa.
Vibram XS Grip 2 – The evolution of XS Grip, sticky rubber geared towards smearing, moderate edging, hard bouldering and overhanging routes. Examples of shoes found on: La Sportiva Solution and Scarpa Drago.
Vibram XS Edge – The high performance edging rubber for standing on the smallest of edges. Good for hard multipitch and steep edgy sport. Examples of shoes found on: La Sportiva Muria and Scarpa Vapor VS.
Unparalleled RH – Slightly stiffer than XS2 but sticky as a pot of honey, this rubber is equivalent to the old Steal C4 compound. High end rubber with a balanced capacity for edging and smearing. Found on the new Unparralleled line of shoes. This is our newest rubber to offer and we are in love with it. (temorarily out of stock)
A note about wear
Thin soles quickly progress to thin spots in your rand which quickly progress to holes as your rubber wears through - sometimes bad enough to create holes in your shoes which in the worst of cases can not be repaired without compromising the fit and integrity of your shoe.
If you want to maximize the life of your shoe and save yourself some money, send them in before you start wearing through the rand rubber.
Many factors can impact whether your rand will need to be replaced. Climbing, rock, and shoe style play a role. Nonetheless, we fix holes and replace rands. The vast majority of shoes we see require the rand to be replaced. Sometimes damage is not visible until we begin the repair process and so we reserve the right to make a final decision unless you specify that you would like to be checked in with. Our goal is to return your shoes in the best shape possible while keeping your budget in mind.
